Our story
Established in 1928 by no-nonsense businessman James Vester Hamrick Sr. (J.V.), Plywood Case Company earned its name from Hamrick’s original product: plywood cases used to ship cottonseed by rail. In 1949, Hamrick purchased a local lumber mill, D.F. New Lumber Company, and incorporated it into the existing business. In 1958, he turned the company over to his son, James Vester Hamrick Jr. (“Big Daddy”), and relocated the business from downtown Carrollton to its current location on Highway 27. At that time, Plywood Case evolved into a full-line building supply company serving the West Georgia area.
Driven by passion
Rusty Lambert entered the picture in 1967 when he began working for J. V. Hamrick Jr. He later courted and married Hamrick’s daughter, Pam. In 1980, Lambert purchased the business from his father-in-law and owned and operated it until 2017.
tradition continues
In 2017, Rusty Lambert handed the keys to his son, Jay Lambert. This is where the story becomes especially meaningful. Jay’s father, Rusty, is the grandson of Doc New (of D.F. New Lumber Company), and his mother, Pam Hamrick Lambert, is the granddaughter of J. V. Hamrick Sr. and the daughter of J. V. Hamrick Jr. As a result, Plywood Case now has a single bloodline connection to its origins, spanning five generations of family ownership.
FROM PAST TO PRESENT
Supporting this legacy has been the steady presence of Plywood Case’s longtime employees. David Adams, the store’s general manager, and David Thurman, the yard and warehouse manager, have each been with the company for 30+ years, helping to serve as the “bridge” between the generations.
For nearly 100 years, this family business has supplied home builders, remodelers, general contractors, and the public across West Georgia and East Alabama with quality building materials and exceptional service. The strength of our family tree is reflected in our business: generation after generation, we remain grounded in customer care, high quality lumber, competitive pricing, and dependable service.
We often refer to ourselves as the “Cheers” of building supply companies: at Plywood Case, everyone knows your name. We still maintain the laid-back, hometown atmosphere that our customers value.
